A Milestone. 100 posts...

Kitchen Remodeling, Days 6 & 7. (End of week 1)

End of week 1.  A bit hard to see, but the wing walls were framed in on Friday, including lowering of the ceiling.  The ceiling was also lowered in the pantry/basement door area, and part of the closet was framed.

Very good progress in week 1!

Listening to Now. Robert Johnson, Come on in my kitchen

Has to be included!

Listening to Now. If I had my way, I'd tear that kitchen wall down

Well, almost...

Blind Willie Jefferson

Kitchen Remodeling, Day 5

Mostly a day of moving things out of the way.  Some floor removed, and headers added to accommodate the range vent and lighting over the sink.  See the PVC line?  Not quite sure why that's there.

Kitchen Remodeling, Day 4

Nothing too visually dramatic.  Carpet is removed, some walls opened, lumber moved in and some things moved out.  Bench taken out of back hall.

How could I overlook this...

The lyrics...

it was cold in the kitchen and the lights were low
as winter slowly stumbled home
the air felt different and it started to show
as every breath resembled smoke
i was short on opinions and i wanted to know
if you'd still be here tomorrow
'cuz it was cold in the kitchen and the lights were low
as winter wrapped around Chicago

(chorus)
the T.V.'s on too much
and I don't ever think enough
about the things that matter most
and what could make me old

and there's no argument
for wasting time much better spent
complacently replacing a melody with smoke

i won't expect a smile when i get home
the blankets that i stole should keep me warm
i hope there's not enough to fill the void
i'm futher from the source to feel (the floor?)

it was cold in the kitchen and the lights were low
as winter slowly stumbled home
the air felt different and it started to show
as every breath resembled smoke
i was short of opinions and i wanted to know
if you'd still be here tomorrow
'cuz it was cold in the kitchen and the lights were low
as winter wrapped around Chicago

Listening to Now. More songs about houses

By 'Madness'.  1992

The lyrics...

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house it has a crowd
There's always something happening
And it's usually quite loud
Our mum she's so house-proud
Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, in the middle of our street
(Something tells you)
(That you've got to get away from it)
Our house, in the middle of our
Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss
She's the one they're going to miss
In lots of ways
[Instrumental Interlude]
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
I remember way back then when
Everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time
Such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we'd play
Simply waste the day away
Then we'd say
Nothing would come between us
Two dreamers
Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our
Our house, was our castle and our keep
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, that was where we used to sleep
Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street

Kitchen Remodeling, Day 3

Finally, Kate's wall falls..

And the old chimney goes too.  Note the old lathe and plaster walls.

But not much activity in the back all yet...

Listening to Now: Our House...

Roughly appropriate...

And then there's this...

Kitchen Remodeling. But where are you living?

Our kitchen.  Note relocated refrigerator, and island.

Our living room.

Kitchen Remodeling, Day 2

Morning of Day 2, after one day of demolition.

Biggest visible change: cabinets, island, counters and refrigerator are gone.
